In January 2021, for the first time in many years, a bill was introduced in Connecticut, which would guarantee healthcare for all. This was only due to activists with Medicare for All CT reaching out in 2020 and before, and having many meetings with legislators and activists, to build support for a single payer program.
Support from several CT State legislators
We are very grateful to the legislators, who introduced H.B.5340, as well as to Rep. Brandon Chafee, Rep. Edwin Vargas, and Rep. Anthony L. Nolan, who signed on as co-sponsors.
The struggle continues
While Connecticut cannot look back to years and years of a coordinated campaign for state-level singe payer as our neighbors in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and especially in New York State can, we are encouraged by the fact that a bill for a single payer program in Connecticut was indeed introduced in 2021, and plan to continue to build even more support for it in the future.
